Lui qui disait sans cesse \u00ab Le musicien et l\u2019ing\u00e9nieur doivent travailler ensemble \u00bb veut bouleverser le son comme les rayons X ont boulevers\u00e9 la vision; il veut changer la nature m\u00eame de la musique, il veut de l\u2019inou\u00ef. La physique quantique est en train de red\u00e9finir les briques \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires de la mati\u00e8re ; Var\u00e8se veut red\u00e9finir en profondeur l\u2019alphabet musical. Pour cela, en bon \u00ab entrepreneur \u00bb \u00e0 la gouaille ravageuse (<em>\u00ab C\u00e9line \u00e9crit comme je parle \u00bb<\/em> plaisantait-il), il fonde l\u2019International Guild Of Composers, avec Carlos Salzedo (harpiste virtuose, qui a remport\u00e9 au Conservatoire de Paris un premier prix de harpe et de piano le m\u00eame jour, exploit qui lui valut de remporter un piano \u00e0 queue Steinway).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ensembleinter.com\/accents-online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSCF0524.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0524\" width=\"492\" height=\"644\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Leur devise sera <em>\u00ab New Ears for New Music And New Music for New Ears\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> ; cette nouvelle musique pour de nouvelles oreilles, ce sera d\u2019abord celle d\u2019<em>Offrandes<\/em>,\u00a0cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1922 \u00e0 New York . <em>\u00ab Un tout petit bout d\u2019\u0153uvre, quelque chose de purement intime \u00bb,<\/em> disait il. Et pourtant, dans ces deux m\u00e9lodies pour voix et orchestre de chambre sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9sents en filigrane tous les ingr\u00e9dients qui vont lui permettre de dynamiter la mati\u00e8re musicale.\u00a0<em>La Chanson de l\u00e0-haut<\/em> est compos\u00e9e sur un po\u00e8me du po\u00e8te Chilien Vicente Huidobro, que son \u00e9pouse Louise Var\u00e8se avait rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 Paris.\u00a0Elle d\u00e9bute avec un appel jou\u00e9 par la trompette, puissamment d\u00e9clam\u00e9 autour de la note \u00ab r\u00e9 \u00bb. Il retrouvera ces d\u00e9buts incantatoires confi\u00e9s \u00e0\u00a0un instrument \u00e0\u00a0vent dans plusieurs de ses \u0153uvres (<em>Octandre<\/em> avec le hautbois, <em>Int\u00e9grales<\/em> avec la clarinette). On y d\u00e9c\u00e8le dans la vocalit\u00e9 l\u2019influence diffuse de Debussy, a\u00een\u00e9 respect\u00e9 dont il gardait pr\u00e9cieusement un exemplaire d\u00e9dicac\u00e9 de <em>La Mer<\/em> ; (\u2026) J\u2019aimerais un ton exalt\u00e9, proph\u00e9tique, incantatoire, l\u2019\u00e9criture restant toutefois s\u00e8che, d\u00e9pouill\u00e9e. \u00bb<\/em>\u00a0Pour transformer la mati\u00e8re musicale en quelque chose de plus dense, de plus \u00e2pre, Var\u00e8se utilise les percussions d\u2019une fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s personnelle. <em>\u00ab Il faut que la percussion parle, qu\u2019elle ait ses propres pulsations, ses propres syst\u00e8mes sanguins. Elle doit insuffler sa puissance \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019orchestre \u00bb<\/em>. Il suffit d\u2019\u00e9couter les premi\u00e8res secondes pour \u00eatre saisi par la radicalit\u00e9 du timbre : on y entend des mixtures inou\u00efes, des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de traitement du son qui ne seront invent\u00e9s que plus tard (l\u2019impression de \u00ab retourner \u00bb un son en le lisant \u00e0 l\u2019envers, que Var\u00e8se parvient \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des jeux virtuoses sur l\u2019intensit\u00e9)\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-8861-7\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ensembleinter.com\/accents-online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Exemple-7-Debut-croix.mp3?_=7\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ensembleinter.com\/accents-online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Exemple-7-Debut-croix.mp3\">http:\/\/www.ensembleinter.com\/accents-online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Exemple-7-Debut-croix.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8230; en refusant de ne se <em>\u00ab soumettre qu\u2019\u00e0 des sons d\u00e9j\u00e0 entendus \u00bb<\/em> il bouleverse les codes, et r\u00e9jouit les oreilles les plus exigeantes.
